A play on the famous words said by most parents: "You don't have to drink to have a good time!" Well, they are correct: you can have a terrible time, and still drink. In college days, our buddy - and future member - Chad would laughingly mention this bit of wisdom, and we started sharing it as well. One day, it hit us that it would make a great country song. So here it is, our country (by way of blues and rock), drinking song...
Grab a cold one – I’ve got a story to tell
One you know all too well
I was hangin’ – hanging out at my regular barstool
When she called me – then called me a fool (yeah)
I said “Baby, what is wrong with a couple of drinks with a couple of guys?
I’m not cheatin’, and I’m not telling lies”
She said “Baby, please don’t call me baby anymore
You’ve been out every damn night since November 2004”
Well, she left me, I let her – now I’m trying to forget her
Before my heart starts to sink
No, you don’t have to have a good time to drink
Took a cab to the Rendevouz, but there was nobody there that I knew
So I sat down for just one or two
Well, a beer and a shot and maybe a dozen rum and cokes
Couldn’t drown my sorrows, but they sure got soaked
Got a dollar, but my heart is broke - sometimes I laugh, unaware of the joke
But tonight I’m with friends, I think
No, you don’t have to have a good time to drink
You don’t have to dance and you don’t have to sing
To have a terrible time
‘Cuz misery loves company, and it mixes so well with wine
I was mumblin’, I was fumblin’ – I came bumblin’, stumblin’, tumblin’ down
I took two pretty girls with me to the ground
My vision was blurred and my speech was slurred when I tried to apologize
It’s too bad bouncers - they're not paid to sympathize
You know that he’s pissed – when your face meets his fist
And you’re down before your bloodshot eyes blink
No, you don’t have to have a good time
No, you don’t have to have a good time
No, you don’t have to have a good time to drink
Salute.
