Is this what 'normal' is now??
Saturday, we go to set up at the gig early. Ya pick up your guitar player because he's still in no shape to drive from the night before. Apparently, sleeping on a toilet 'Elvis style' doesn't speed up the sobering process.
Then we arrive at the club at 11AM, ya I said AM, and are shortly after greeted by the owner Mark who is still reeling from the night before himself. He decides that orange juice is good for ya in the morning, especially when mixed in some crazy bomb like shot with SKYY vodka. So, we step up and drink with the 'boss'. You can't say you drank all day unless you start before noon... you can check this one off the list...done! One is never a good stopping point so shortly after we check off number two. Not to mention a little 'side bar' meeting me and the boss had with a shot of Apple liquer. Ya, he likes his fruit in the early hours. Most club owners would frown on you doing this much drinking in between your 1st and 2nd set, it's not even lunch time yet.
We finish setting up and wisely lay low for a few hours, go to a picnic, visit the music store, hang with friends and get some Taco's Elrey.
Getting close to show time ,we round up the troops and head out to pick up Dommer (our sound man). When we arrive at his house and beep the horn. He comes out and promptly asks, "What do you want for a shot?" Puzzled, we ask back, "what do you mean?" He then barks out, "what the f**k do you want for a shot?" After he briefs us on the menu at 'Dommer's roadside liquer and shot bar', we place our order. Moments later, with a dinner plate in hand with 5 freezing cold shots on it, our server is back. We indulge and are soon on our way. Needless to say, that was a first!
We arrive at the club and, as always, Mark has a cooler for us in our dressing room. Our favorite beers a few waters (why??) and a bottle of Champagne.
The gig goes smoothly (all things considered) with a few Korbels from the 'boss' (it's much better cold than warm!) Grant slams his beer during 'Ledbetter' like the champ he is. He's a good recoverer it seems.
Tearing down we franticly look to get a few more beers, because its 2 am and we will never be able to catch a buzz if we don't have a few more.
We continue to guzzle and inhale 2 pizzas, all while talking smack while loading the trailer. Dommer decided it looked like a good night to walk home through the 'good' part of Kenosha... he made it. Maybe it was because he was carrying a violin case with him.
After dropping off 'Elvis' and giving him a map of his house, so he can figure out the difference between the bedroom and the bathroom, home I go.
It's 3:30am and my bro, Plags and I decide to have a nightcap. All I have is a case of Genuine Draft, which I hate, but at this point it doesn't sound all that bad. An hour and a half of VH1 classic, talking about Butch Walker and how messed up Jani Lane is, and Plags telling my little bro about how he, Grant , and myself really used to drink, we rap it up. Nightcap = 4 beers in Wisconsin.
Long day.... good times!! Making memories.
As I layed in bed all I could hear ringing in my head was, " I'm DONE! "
